chart-simple line x-axis

How is it possible to have the values on the chart x-axis to be shown vertically rather than horizantal?
Thanks

I dont find any option to do that. actually coming to real time when the number of values on x axis is more, the values will be shown vertically.

Is that acceptable? or you want your values all the time printed vertically

Thank you,

Raj Deep.A

I just tested your comments.

You are right.

I think I will go with the default for now.

Many thanks

Charts in Reporting Services

Hi,
I have a report with a chart. The chart is a simple line
chart. Each line in the chart is represented as a
different color. In the absence of a color printer, I
need to change lines to be represented differently. In
other words, one line as a dashed, one as a solid, one as
a dot-dash.
Is this possible to make it do this?
Thanks,
DonUsing the Chart Properties dialog navigate to the Data tab.
From there you can set the Appearance for each Value.
In particular you will want to set the Border and Line properties using the
Series Style options

Thanks.
I tried this and the property settings were applied to
all "Series". How do I make each "Series" have a
different line type (one solid, one dashed one dots )?

Charts - too much data - possible to break up into 2 charts

If the user is reporting on a lot of information then the line chart/graph
in the report contains too much data and the X-Axis labels just look like
one big blob because all of the item labels are squeezed together too
tightly.
Has anyone found a way to say for example... If there are more than X number
of items on the X Axis in the chart then to split the chart into 2 charts.
The second chart would appear directly beneath the 1st chart. This way the
user would be able to telll what the data is they are looking at.
This seems to be a common problem in all charting situations and the
solution usually is just filtering on less data. I don't see why we have to
tell the user to filter on less data and run multiple reports. It seems
possible that en enterprise reporting application like RS should have this
capability... or... the capability to code it in the report.
Any ideas? There is no perfect solution for this. Some ideas:
* You could use filters and multiple charts and use conditional visibility
to hide unneeded charts
* Group the data and use drillthrough reports with charts showing the
details per group
* If you use a bar chart visualization instead of line chart, you could use
a table with groupings. In the group header you would add a chart. The more
data you have in the dataset, the more groups you get and the more chart
bars are drawn. A sample for this approach is copied to the bottom of this
posting.

Chart warning when "time-scaled values" is enabled.

I have a line chart with an x-axis of dates. When I enable "time-scaled
values" on the x-axis of the chart properties, I get this warning and the
chart does not graph the data properly.
"The sorting applied to the category grouping of the chart â'chart2â' is
different from the grouping expression."
If I disable "time-scaled values" the chart graphs the data properly, but
then I see way too many date labels on the x-axis that makes it unreadable.
Does anyone know how to resolve the above warning and still get the same
readability on the x-axis?You can ignore this particular warning. It should not be shown when
time-scaled values is selected.

similar to mine, but the chart in my report does not graph the data
correctly. Instead of a slow growth curve, I get what looks like a toddler
scribbled on my graph. If I disable "time-scaled values" then the data
graphs properly, but then the x-axis is unreadable due to the numerous
samples of data.

on the chart category groups. The sorting has to be identical to the
grouping expression. Then the data will be sorted and you will get a slow
growth curve.
You can solve the issue with too many labels on the x-axis by setting the
x-axis MINOR interval value to e.g. 5 (i.e. one label per 5 categories /
data samples).

Chart trend line

Good day,
I hope some one can help. In the past I have used OWC to create much charts
for the web but now see the light and have started to use SSRS. Only on thing
though, is it possible for a SSRS chart to have trend lines. It is critical
that I have trend lines in my chart, what the MD wants the MS gets.
Any one know if this is possible and how to do it'
RegardsAre you talking about showing markers and plot data as a line? If so: right
click the graph, click properties, select Data tab, select the value, click
edit and select Appearance tab. Here you have show markers and plot data as
line options.

need to have a trend line for each of the fields. You can do it with OWC
which is what I am converting my charts from.

chart series

Is it possible to chart one data series as a line and another as a bar on the
same graph. Other tools allow this and I have been asked to do it - I dont
see how it is possible since you define the graph as either line or bar to
begin with.Yes, you can do that. Create your column chart. Then go to the chart
properties dialog. In the dialog go to the Data tab and edit the properties
of your trend data series. The "Edit chart value" dialog should pop up. In
this dialog go to the Appearance tab and select "Plot data as line".

Chart Question...

Hi,
I'm trying to create a line graph/chart in reporting services. I have 2
stored procedures that outputs the count of 2 tables that created 2
datasets.
Both these procedures use a field called acctdates. I'm trying to use
the acctdates as the catagory field and the 2 counts in the data field. But
I keep receiving an error saying I can't use a field from another dataset
for the current dataset. Is there a way around this problem? or is there a
different way I should approach it?
Please help....
Thank you,
RickyYou may want to consider joining the two datasets inside a stored procedure.

chart question

Could someone please tell me how I can show 0 - 100% on Y-axis in line
charts. I have been trying Format code of #% but that adds 2 additional zeros
like this 20% will be 2000%. Please advise.
Also, I am unable to change the series color.
I need to add a window outset all around the chart with a small window on
top for label. Is it even possible? It seems so easy to do with .Net charting
but I can't figure it out here.
Thanks!!
SonalIf you format values as percentages, then 1 mean 100%. 0.5 means 50%
This behavior is similar to e.g. Excel.

chart problem

Hello everybody,
I have problem to make a simple line report:
My Query's dataset:
select VALUE_IND, DATE_IND
from uc.TB_INDI as TI, uc.TB_DEF_IND as TDI
where TDI.LIB_DEF_IND = @.param1 and
TDI.NO_DEF_IND = TI.NO_DEF_IND and
TI.NO_PRJ = @.param2
The result of this query is (from my test base):
VALUE_IND Date_IND
5.0 2005-01-02 00:00:00.000
15.0 2005-02-02 00:00:00.000
10.0 2005-03-02 00:00:00.000
25.0 2005-04-02 00:00:00.000
9.0 2005-05-02 00:00:00.000
33.0 2005-06-02 00:00:00.000
25.0 2005-07-02 00:00:00.000
10.0 2005-08-02 00:00:00.000
28.0 2005-09-02 00:00:00.000
55.0 2005-10-02 00:00:00.000
5.0 2005-11-02 00:00:00.000
10.0 2005-12-02 00:00:00.000
I want to make a chart 'Simple Line' with date in X axis and value in Y
axis. So, in 'Drop data fields here', i put VALUE_IND (which contains
Fields!VALUE_IND.Value like value) and in 'Drop category fields here', i
put DATE_IND (which contains =Fields!DATE_IND.Value like expression)
But when i make a preview, i have only one date record: January in X
axis (x5)and all the value are grouped at the right of the chart!
I don't understand what's happening, i need help please.
Thanks in advance,

chart line style

Hi,
Could I change the line style for chart? The default chart lines are solid
with different colors. I'd like to change solid lines to dotted or dashed
lines. Could anybody know how to do it?
Thanks.
OliverMake sure you have RS 2000 SP2 installed.
Check section 4.2.10 of the Readme file for details about the added
capabilities to modify the style of line charts:

Chart legend has too much data - how to only show 1 legend

I have created a hybrid bar chart / with line. Basically uses the bars to
show sales for each geographic region. A single line is plotted showing the
sales goal to be reached. The x axis is "Region" The y axis value 1 is total
sales $. I added y value 2 to show the sales goal $ and the legend
automatically got populated with series labels. I only want the x axis
labels to be in the legend.
How can I fix this?NP,
This is not a direct answer to your question, but I got tired of the report
legend and what seemed the lack of configuration and used a nice trick from
the Technical Article: Get More Out of SQL Server Reporting Services Charts
(http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa964128.aspx) to create my own
legend. The document is excellent, five stars.
If you use the Custom Chart Color Palettes and Legends section from the doc
you will see what I mean. You are able to create your own legend and use what
you want and remove what you don't.
Hope this helps.

Chart Labels at an angle?

Hi,

I have created a report with bar chart but the labels are too long and often go into next line. Is there any way to specify text orientation for labels of a bar chart? I would like to show the chart labels at an angle. Is it possible?

Any help will be appreciated!

This depends on which labels you are referring to. If you are referring to data point labels, then yes, it is possible to specifiy an angle. However, if you are referring to the labels on one of the axes, then no, it is not possible at this time to specify an angle. These labels are positioned automatically. The ability to manually set the angle for axis labels is a potential new feature for the next version of Reporting Services.

To Set the Angle for Data Point Labels:
In the Report Designer, there is a section on the Chart Value properties dialog that allows you to specify an angle for data point labels. This is located on the Point Labels tab of this dialog, which can be reached by creating or editing a Chart Value on the Data tab of the Chart properties dialog.

Chart Help! I must be stupid!

OK, I have done 1000s of excel charts. Paste in the data, select the
data, insert chart and it works.
I am trying to do a simple line chart in RS and can't figure it out
after two hours. Maybe it is time to quir coding! My query returns the
following:
Product, Month1, Month2, Month3, Month4, Month5 (There Are Column
Names)
Proda 123 222 454 126 322 (this is the sales
data, row 1)
Prodb 333 526 447 631 262 (this is the sales
data, row 2)
Prodc 143 242 344 126 229 (this is the sales
data, row 3)
Prodd 153 123 467 116 122 (this is the sales
data, row 4)
I want a simple line chart with month1 thru month 5 at the bottom axis
and the
sales scale on the left axis. The series would be of course
proda,b,c,d. So I
want 4 lines on the chart from left to right representing month 1 thru
5 and the line would chart up and down based on the sales number.
In excel I paste in the table, hightlight it and insert a line chart
and it is 100% right. I'll email anyone the excel file who wants it.
What am I missing on this deal. I have looked every where and tried a
dozen combos. Thanks for your time!!
SheilaWhat kind of charts did you choose?

Chart Drill Through Bug?

I have a peculiar problem with a line chart that has a "jump to report"
action. The chart basically shows sales by month, with two different
lines for 2004 and 2005. When a user clicks on a specific month, it
jumps to a detailed report for that month. This works beautifully
except for one problem:
The first month is the starting point of the line graph, call it
December. Clicking on the line anywhere between December and January
jumps to the January detail report. In a way, I guess this sort of
makes sense because otherwise I guess you wouldn't be able to drill to
the last month on the graph. What I'd really like to be able to is not
make the "line" interactive at all. I'd rather define the drill
through in the point label itself. So that when you click on the point
label for December, then you go to the december report.
Does anyone know of way to do that? Maybe by directly defining it in
the rdl?Did you look into using datapoint "markers"? They can help to improve line
charts to make the drillthrough links more obvious (especially if the
markers are bigger than the line width).
The described behavior (the line is also interactive) is inherent to design
of the chart control and cannot be changed.

Chart combination

Hello,

I would like to combine an area- and line graph (something like this: http://www.graphicsserver.net/images/thumb%20area%20bar%20line%20graph.png, without the bars), can this be done?

Thanks,

IIMAYou will probably need Dundas Charts or another 3rd party control to do something with that effect.
It is possible to overlay 3 charts with transparent backgrounds, but I do not think that the effect will be pleasing.|||Ok, I guess I'll have to wait for RS2005 then.

Thanks for your answer,

IIMA|||Don't expect this to be substantually changed in RS2005. The graphs haven't changed that much. As well, overlapping graphs won't be supported in a rendering engines, and will likely cause you additional grief.

Hopefully we'll see enhanced 3rd party support expanding in the coming months.|||Actually, you can do this in both RS2000 and RS2005. In the chart properties dialog, edit the data point and select 'Plot data as line'. You can only do this with line combinations (e.g. not bar / area).|||I noticed that option, but it's disabled when I select an area chart.

Char(10) breaking query

I have been working on a pretty ugly stored procedure recently, while debugging I added a char(10) to the end of each line of the SQL query so I could copy it to query analyzer(QA) and debug the SQL syntax output from of the stored procedure.

It had no effect on the stored procedure working, but when I copied the query to QA it got the error below, so I removed them all and added them in one line at a time to find the problem.

--Server: Msg 170, Level 15, State 1, Line 3
--Line 3: Incorrect syntax near ','.

Below are the 2 querys, the only difference is the Char(10) between Amt6 and Amt7!

http://www.rakbiz.com/download/broken.txt
http://www.rakbiz.com/download/working.txt

I also tried char(13) with same results.

any ideas why this is happening or how to add line breaks for readability without this problem?

Thanks for your help! Why is the code all on 1 line?

Ir's generated code isn't it.

Kind of hard to debug it without being formatted...|||You've been living in the *nix world too long! Windoze uses CRLF (aka Char(13) + Char(10) in SQL) instead of just LF (Char(10), aka NewLine) to separate lines.

-PatP|||Thanks Pat for the tip, that was it, I would never have guessed!

Actually I am from *ax backgroup ;)
