Charting table detail and sum

I have a bar chart that displays the detail of a table with locations along the x-axis and number of employees on the y-axis. Is there any way to have the sum of all of the locations show as the final bar in the chart? (which would be the footer in the table)

Any help would be most appreciated,
Thanks

Sorry, "subtotals" are not directly supported in charts. But I'm not sure if you would really get the desired effect with a subtotal in charts. Since the individual employee groups share the same Y-axis as the total number of employees, you would most likely get many small bars and one long bar showing the total number of employees.
One alternative way is to add a second chart which just shows the total number of employees.

Chart Y-axis Values Problem

I created a chart using some calculated fields, the calculations are working
correctly (I manually checked the math), but the Y axis values are way off.
The highest field value generated was 18,544 but the scale on the chart was
showing 500,000 with the bar reaching nearly to the top. I could understand
if the scale was just off and the bar stopped at the correct position, but
not only is the scale off, the bar doesn't correctly represent the value
either. Because this report will be used for several customers I can't
manually set a limit for the Y-axis. I turned off the labels for the Y-axis
so that I can use the chart, but I would prefer being able to see the labels.
I have installed SP1. Any help would be appreciated.
JoeHi, you can convert the scale of your chart in a expression in the RDL; try
it.

Joe, can you post a simplified report which runs e.g. based on Northwind
data and reproduces the issue?

chart y-axis scales

Hi,
How is it possible to programmatically set the min and max scale values of
the Y-axis in a chart?
Currently I manually enter values in the Y-Axis scale min/max properties.
ThanksJust place the field data into the boxes.
i.e. min(fields.id.value)

chart y-axis intervals not using formula?

i put the formula day(Parameters!Parameter1.Value) into my y-axis's major gridlines interval value, and it doesn't obey the value i put in.

is this a bug or another "feature"?

when i just type in "31" is works as expected.

is there a work around for this?

I dont think it will accept an Expression. unless you have symbol like fx beside it,you cant enter any expression

neither it is bug nor feature.

Only Constants are accepted here.

others: please correct me if i am not correct

Thanks

|||for Y-axis , no expresions are available. Hence you can't have dynamic Y-axis|||

no, not all fields with out the expression symbol won't accept expressions. the maximum and minimum fields will accept expressions. i guess that's what lead me to expect major gridlines option to accept it.

seems really stupid to not allow it.

as a side note, the dundas control which DOES show the expression field beside major gridlines also doesn't accept any formula, so it must be some internal failing on the part of RS

Hi Tim

The Major Gridlines Interval will accept expressions. I have spent some time working with this to get my charts to display the Y axis scale in consistent way. The key is to derive the maximum value that your chart is going to display dynamically and divide it by the number of gridlines you want displayed.

For example the expression =Ceiling(Max(Fields!Data.Value))/5 will give you five gridlines whose spacing is dependant on the the data selection chosen when the report is run.

In practice I have found that the interaction between Minimun, Maximum and Major Gridlines interval is complex and setting one can have an adverse effect on the other.

As a result I just set one value out of the three depending on what I am trying to achieve.

You can also use expressions containing code if you want to write you own scaling function, which I have found gives the best results.

Hope this helps

chart Y-Axis dynamic maximum

Hello,
I got a bar chart, it shows percentages up to...yes 100%.
Usually, their is a series which are 20-30%, but once in a while
I get one value which is 100%.
If I leave the maximum unset...the bar chart resizes so that the area
show differences better for 20-30% series, however if a single 100%
value comes then the upper limit of the Y-Axis goes above 100%.
If I set the maximum then obviously the series of 20-30% look all
small...
Any ideas for putting in some expression into the maximum?
Thanks,
MattUnfortunately you cannot use expressions for the max and min (I too wanted
this). This feature will be available in RS 2005.

chart x-axis y-axis

I'm trying to convert an old chart to Reporting Services.
We have used the same dataset for years, it is very very simple. But it seems to me that Reporting Services can't deal with this simple dataset.

My question is: How can I get create a line chart using this dataset.

The data set consists of 1 row with 96 columns (a day divided into 96 sets of 15 minutes). Each column records how many events occurs within the 15 minutes. Along the x axis I would like to display a vertical line every 4 hours. The y axis should be numbered 0 to the highest value in the results.

I could not make this dataset any more simple than it is. But Reporting Services just chokes on this.

Here is a sample of the dataset :
1 2 0 4 5 6 7 8 9 10... 96It looks as thought what I may need is to reset the dataset to look like this:
time events
00-14 1
15-29 2
30-44 0
...

The only way I could do that with the existing tables would be 96 unions.

96 Unions!
Microsoft I must say that I am not so impressed with reporting services. Dragging fields to a myesterous chart "category" or "series" was dumb to begin with.

Chart X-axis & Y-axis Title

Does RS allow to use expression to generate titles for X- and Y-axis, either
through a field obtained from the database or a Parameter ?
Right now, even after SP1, I do not see a button that leads to <Expression>
dialog for X and Y-axis title, similar to say a <textbox> control.
Thanks.Although there is no expression builder button there, you can type any
expression you want for axes titles.

chart question

Could someone please tell me how I can show 0 - 100% on Y-axis in line
charts. I have been trying Format code of #% but that adds 2 additional zeros
like this 20% will be 2000%. Please advise.
Also, I am unable to change the series color.
I need to add a window outset all around the chart with a small window on
top for label. Is it even possible? It seems so easy to do with .Net charting
but I can't figure it out here.
Thanks!!
SonalIf you format values as percentages, then 1 mean 100%. 0.5 means 50%
This behavior is similar to e.g. Excel.

Chart Problem: Multiple values to y-axis for the the same x-axis value

I have a simple-column chart and in the x-axis I put the date values and in the y-axis the sale price values.

The chart works perfectly in the case when there is only one sale price for the same date. But, when the price changes during the same day, then there is problem. In the following example

x y

1/1/2007 6.25

2/1/2007 7

2/1/2007 4

3/1/2007 8

the chart will have three columns and in the date 2/1/2007 will display the min or max of the two values. What I need is to represent all the values i.e. the chart must have four columns , as much as the rows of the dataset

Is it possible?

It sounds like your category grouping is based on the DateTime value. Therefore, data values with the same timestamp are grouped together.

You will need to change the category grouping similar to the "StepFunctionChart" sample discussed in the following whitepaper (near the end): http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa964128.aspx - search for "StepFunctionChart".

Basically, you need a category grouping expression that will make sure every data row is its own group, e.g. by concatenation:

=Fields!Y.Value & "|" & Fields!TimeStamp.Value

Chart in Crystal Reports

Hai Babu,

i want to draw graph in reports. i have X-Axis value in a Column and Y-Axis Value in another column.

By using chart wizzard in crystal reports in Data tab.

i assign on every change of X-Axis Value, show values of Y-Axis(problem started here)

by default it will give summarize value of that Y-Axis Column, there is a option Don't Summarize value but by default it is in disable mode. how to make it enable.

very urgent, reply as soon as possible.

-amjathDid you ever figure out how to fix this problem? I am having the same difficulties.

chart and localization

I'm not able to define the chart y-axis maximum and minimun to be fixed
0,2 and -0,2. I have defined the report language as finnish and in
editor the everything works fine but after deploying and in preview mode
reporting services changes the limits to -15 and 15. I suppose the
problem is the the ',' decimal separator. I have set IE and asp.net
local to finnish and the OS (XP PRO EN) default locals to the use
finnish number formats. All other formattings in the report are just
fine, so the only problem is the chart. Does anyone know how to fix this
problem?I know this might be a stupid question but have you tried setting it to
0.2 instead of 0,2?
I had a few issues with number formatting in 2000 too, when trying to
use Norwegian formats. I ended up using US/UK numbers then applying
format codes for displaying.
There are also significant issues in 2005 data and preview tab with
European date formats (dd/mm/yyyy). It works fine when deployed.
The point I am aiming at is that the preview tab is not that good an
indicator of how the report may behave when deployed, primarily because
there are a number of issues when using non-US locales.

The behavior is quite strange that way as well.
I'd like to have the scale between 0.2 and -0.2. If I set these values
the scale end up to be 0.2 and -1.0. So the negative side somehow fails.
If I set range from 0,2 to -0,2 I'll get a range from 2 to -2 so
probably the '.' is anyway the corrent decimal separator.
Does anyone have idea why I'm not able to set the negative decimal value
to minimun?

chart - y-axis

How can I show the y-axis to be a little bit higher than the maximum value on
a simple column chart? I do not specify the maximum value. Also, can I make
line-column chart in report designer like in excel.
Thanks in advance.
JSJust turn on the margins on the y-axis (chart properties dialog - y-axis
